Synopsis
The documentary shows the history of music in Brazil from the golden times of the Radio Nacional until today, through the career of conductor Severino Filho, founder of the vocal group Os Cariocas that launched Bossa Nova in Brazil.
Famous composer Tom Jobim said that “all music is a reflection of its time”, the documentary how the culture of this extremely musical nation was shaped by socio-political events from 1946 to 2016.
The filmmaker collected more than 60 testimonies with some of the most influential artists, musicologists, writers, maestros, composers and historians in the country to tell a story that has not been told in the movies; how music is influenced by politics. The documentary was conceived, directed, produced and narrated by the actress Lucia Verissimo, who is also the daughter of the maestro Severino Filho which gave her a front roll seat to most of the events narrated in that marked maestro Severino Filho‘s his musical path.
Lucia Verissimo was also responsible for the main camera work, which meant that guests gave their testimonies in an relaxed atmosphere found only between those who have lived with the actress /director since childhood. This allows the viewer to feel like a friend invited to the conversation.
Beginning the narrative in the famous Radio Nacional, through the periods of the Bossa Nova, Tropicalia, Samba and MPB, this documentary makes an explanation of how historical facts were decisive in the Brazilian artistic development. The documentary has a rich collection of photos, films, videos and 134 songs.

cariocas
Group formed by two Brothers, Severino Filho and Ismael Netto, Os Cariocas to this day are the largest representatives of one of the most heard musical styles in the world, BOSSA NOVA, as well as the most prized and respected vocal ensemble, having followers in several countries mainly In the USA, where some vocal ensembles have been known to follow in their footsteps using the bold vocal arrangements of Os Cariocas as a reference for their own arrangements.
It was, in the history of universal music, the first vocal group to introduce a falsetto voice and thus, to open the way for vocalizations never tried before 1946.
